What will electing a Green MSP do for the South of Scotland?
A Green MSP will:
- Actively promote the concerns of all those who care for the environment
in the South of Scotland, ensuring that effects on the environment are
considered in all new legislation.
- Liaise with environmental groups over what legislation to introduce.
Robin Harper's Organic Targets Bill was introduced to parliament following
discussions with all the main environmental groups, from bird lovers to
farmers, as to which piece of legislation would be most beneficial to
introduce, and most likely to succeed.
- Help environmental groups receive extra publicity for their concerns.
- Support environmentalists in every way possible.
A Green MSP will work hard for all those who elect him or her in all their
concerns.
What are the chances of winning?
Good. The support is definitely there, but we need to reach all our potential
voters. However, we are a small party with no corporate donations, no
trade union funding, no Bernie Ecclestones. If we can persuade just one-tenth
of the people who didn't vote last time that we are a different sort of
party, with different policies, different ways of working, then we will
win. We need only 6% of the vote.
If you could help us in any way, you could make that bit of difference
between winning and nearly winning. Could you publicise our candidates
to your friends? Could you put up a poster in your window during the campaign?

to your group, or put a flyer in your next mailing?

How is the Green Party different?
Our members control our policies. Anyone can join and
propose policies to be voted on at party conference.
We do not have an internal ruling cabal.
We are not interested in power for the sake of power - our ideal in
politics is to make ourselves redundant.
We are not trying to be a government - we are hoping to form a small
strong independent group in parliament, standing up for the environment
and the quality of life in Scotland in its every aspect.
We do not have large donations from corporate paymasters or any other
vested interests, and would refuse them if offered. |
Scottish Green Party members were involved in the
successful battle to stop nuclear waste being dumped in the Galloway
hills, are fighting against Labour-backed proposals for a new nuclear
power station to replace the ailing and aged Chapelcross, and are
calling for Torness nuclear power station in East Lothian to be
closed. |
We believe in promoting our policies positively and do not indulge in
name-calling yah-boo politics.
We promote honest politics and financial probity - the EC commissioners'
finance scandals were exposed by Greens.
We are ordinary people who have spent years passionately campaigning
for the environment - not career politicians with no experience of life
outside politics. We are teachers, doctors, computer specialists, housing
workers, researchers, pensioners and disabled people who want to influence
politics, not politicians who want to influence people.
